Entry Level Driver Training
The first step to obtain your commercial driver's license is to complete Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT). On February 7, 2022, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) implemented this new regulation for all professional drivers.
All commercial licenses are subject to the new regulation, however, the date your license was issued will determine if you will be required to complete ELDT.
Review the chart below to determine if you need to complete ELDT.
| A driver was issues a CDL or a School Buss, Passenger, ore Hazardous Materials endorsement before February 7, 2022. | NOT required to complete ELDT |
| A driver holds a CLP issued before February 7, 2022, but the CLP expired before the driver applies for their CDL | MUST complete ELDT |
| A driver obtains a CLP on or after February 7, 2022 | MUST complete ELDT |
| A driver held a CDL prior to February 7, 2022 and applies to upgrade to a higher class for the first time | MUST complete ELDT for the upgrade only |
