At Hawkeye Community College, it is our goal to help students be successful in our programs. This pre-admission exam will help determine student readiness to begin the Nursing curriculum and be utilized to provide advising.

The ATI TEAS test (Test of Essential Academic Skills), also referred to as the TEAS VI test, is a computerized multiple-choice assessment of basic academic knowledge in reading, mathematics, science, and English and language usage. The objectives assessed on the ATI TEAS test are those which nurse educators deemed most appropriate and relevant to measure entry level skills and abilities of nursing program applicants.

Scores from other colleges will not be accepted. Please register for a date and time below to take your ATI TEAS test.

Registering for the ATI TEAS Test

Call Student Services to register for a date and time to take your ATI TEAS test. Appointments cannot be made via email.

Test sessions are scheduled the first week of each month excluding January—the TEAS is not offered in January.

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your testing appointment. Late arrivals will not be allowed to test.

After You've Scheduled Your Test

Once you have registered for your ATI TEAS test at Hawkeye, you must create an account:

  1. Go to

  2. In the Secure Sign On area, click on “Create an Account”

  3. Complete all fields required including your Hawkeye Community College student ID number. Where do I find my student ID number?

    This must be completed before you test.

  4. Be certain to write down your username and password. You will need these to take the test.

  5. Click “Register” to complete the registration.

What to Bring With You to the ATI TEAS Test

Students will not be permitted to test without the following:

  • A valid photo ID (must include: current photo, signature, and permanent address)
  • Check or cash to pay for the testing/retesting fee. Cost for the test is $65.
  • ATI account username and password

Calculators may not be used for the test.

Preparing for the ATI TEAS Test

There are several ways you can prepare for the ATI TEAS test:

  • ATI TEAS PAL is a self-paced tutoring computer program designed to help you prepare and pass the ATI TEAS test. Stop by during the following times.

You may test a total of five times if your composite score is 63.9% or below. Retesting fees will apply. You are allowed to test once per calendar month.

Remediation is highly recommended; The TEAS PAL Lab, located in Bremer Hall room 127, has tutoring available. Call 319-296-4029 for hours, dates and times, as they vary each semester.

Evaluation and Testing

The Evaluation and Testing Center is temporarily suspending ALL testing until further notice to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. This includes all Hawkeye make-up tests, CLEP, IDALS (pesticide application), Scantron, PearsonVue, outside proctored exams, Dental Boards, State (Journeyperson) Exams, and TEAS.

Exams already scheduled March 16–19 will be honored.
