JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for supervision and/or installation of telecommunications equipment by staff and third-party vendors. Supports the daily operation of Hawkeye Telecommunications, including classroom video recording and streaming, service and maintenance of distance learning classrooms.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Recommends, designs and engineers telecommunications system additions, configurations, upgrades, and bid specifications.
  • Provides technical support for college-wide video data networks for digital and streaming video, requiring knowledge of TCP/IP protocols and scripting.
  • Develops equipment bid specifications.
  • Performs system evaluations, inspections, and reporting per college requirements.
  • Repairs electronic equipment related to telecommunications, classroom or conference room technology, or other small electronics.
  • Provides backup technical support of the college’s telecommunications equipment and backup support for ICN video telecommunications equipment.
  • Maintains current and in-depth knowledge of video technology including hardware, communications, and networking technologies (LAN, WAN and Wireless), new developments in television and video production, distribution, IP video, digital signage, videoconferencing, and streaming media technologies and related fields.
  • Works flexible hours as needed.
  • Develops and maintains documentation of work processes
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a computer or electronics related field and two years directly related work experience or a related Associate’s degree and four years of directly related work experience.
  • Working knowledge and experience with Telecommunications, Television Production systems, IP Video systems, Digital Signage systems, Videoconferencing systems, microcomputer operations, and Streaming Media systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of the design, installation, and maintenance of digital signage.
  • Experience with audio/video control and automation systems (Crestron, Extron) in conference room or classroom environments.
  • Experience with digital audio and video codecs, protocols, and transport in routed networks.
  • Experience repairing small electronics such as equipment related to telecommunications, classroom or conference room technology.
  • Adept at learning new technologies and software applications.
  • Project a positive and professional image while working with staff and students.
  • Demonstrated ability in strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work with a culturally diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the general public.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated effective oral, written and listening communication skills.
  • Demonstrated effective organizational skills to manage multiple and shifting tasks/demands to meet timely deadlines.
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems.
  • Good judgment and ability to handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:
