JOB SUMMARY:

This position supervises high school completion (HSC) program instructors, volunteers, and staff. Coordinates curriculum and develops teaching objectives for each level of classes. Establishes policies and guidelines for programs. Cooperates and collaborates with agencies, the college, and the community to provide services and classes. Provides appropriate in-service opportunities for staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maintains communication with Director, teachers, volunteers, and staff.
  • Plans and implements weekly HSC staff meetings. 
  • Serves on Region 7 Youth Standing Committee.
  • Assists in sourcing, interviewing, hiring, supervising, and evaluating part time and full time teaching staff.
  • Provides or coordinates onboarding professional development for newly hired and continuing professional development for teachers, volunteers, and staff.
  • Works with teaching staff to prepare class rosters/student schedules.
  • Selects and orders instructional materials; and continues to develop the curriculum.
  • Ensures maintenance of accurate program record keeping, assessments, post assessments, and benchmark attainment.
  • Assists with grant applications and preparation of grant reports. 
  • Meets with students as needed for goal setting, disciplinary measures and class placement.  Meets with 16, 17, 18 year-olds and their parents/guardians prior to enrollment.
  • Works in cooperation with Assessment Center staff on matters related to HSC student intake, registration, and assessment.
  • Assists with HSC program orientation.
  • Collaborates with college and staff to organize and implement graduation ceremony annually.
  • Assists Transition Specialist to support student transition to postsecondary education.
  • Assists in operation of front office area.
  • Makes recommendations on budgetary needs for program.
  • Assists with development and coordination of new grant projects.
  • Serves as a positive voice to community groups.
  • Collaborates with director, staff, and Public Relations department to ensure all advertising, flyers, webpages and written communication are current and accurate.
  • Attends meetings with community and college groups.
  • Functions as a member of various program teams such as Family Literacy and I-BEST.
  • Teaches or substitute teaches classes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.
  • Equivalency of at least one year teaching experience.
  • Ability to coordinate applications, reports and programs for grant funded projects.
  • Highly developed skills in interpersonal relations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and objectives simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of computer applications.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings.
  • Ability to work with and provide customer service for diverse populations (faculty, staff, students, and general public).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff from multiple departments.

PREFERENCES:

  • Teaching certification.
  • Experience hiring and supervising staff.

REPORTS TO:

Director, Urban Centers and Adult Literacy
