Find New Ways to Get Involved

Join a club or organization that interests you, or start one if we don’t have it yet! It’s a great way to meet new people and explore your passions. You’ll also gain skills like leadership and teamwork, which can help in your personal life and future career. Clubs and organizations give you the chance to:

Connect with faculty, staff, and other students.
Explore your special interests.
Learn how to work well with others.
Get involved in fun activities outside of class.
Gain valuable life experiences.

Types of Student Clubs & Organizations

Clubs and organizations are run by students, with support from a faculty or staff advisor.

Professional and departmental clubs are a great way for you to explore interests related to your future career. These clubs can help you build skills and knowledge that will support your career development.

Business Professionals of America: Club for students pursuing careers in business management, office administration, information technology, and other related career fields.
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA): Special interest club for students pursuing career pathways in Early Childhood Education, Pre-K–12 Education Majors, and Hospitality Management.
HOSA: Explore healthcare careers, build skills, and connect with peers and professionals committed to making a difference.
Occupational Therapy Assistant Club: Special interest group for Occupational Therapy Assistant students.
Physical Therapist Assistant Club: Club for Physical Therapist Assistant students.
Psychology/Sociology/Social Work Club: Special interest club for students interested in Psychology, Sociology, and Social Work.
Respiratory Care Club: Special interest group for Respiratory Care students.
STEM Club: The STEM Club educates students about STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) majors and careers.
Student American Dental Assistant Association (SADAA): Special interest group for Dental Assisting students.
Student American Dental Hygienists Association (SADHA): Special interest group for Dental Hygiene students.
Student Nursing Association: Special interest group for Practical Nursing and Associate Degree Nursing students.
Student Success Services Mentorship Club: Join this mentorship club to build confidence, connect with peers, and grow academically and personally. Open to Student Success Services students.
Web Development Club: Special interest club for Web, Mobile, and Game Development students and those interested in programming.

To join scholastic honorary clubs, you need to show academic excellence and achievement.

Kappa Tau Chapter of Alpha Alpha Alpha (Tri-Alpha): Honor society for first-generation college students, offering support and resources to help members achieve academic success.
Phi Theta Kappa: Academic honor society. You must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher. They offer leadership skills, fellowship, and scholarships.

Service clubs are a great way for you to give back to Hawkeye and the community.

Student Ambassadors: The members of this club are the main representatives of Hawkeye Community College, Experience Hawkeye Visit Days, and many other special events on and off campus.
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee: The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is an organization that provides student-athletes a voice in addressing issues of student-athletes welfare at Hawkeye Community College.
Student Leadership Council: The voice of the students at Hawkeye Community College. Members are involved in leadership, legislation, all the activities on campus, and much more.

Special interest clubs let you explore a hobby, passion, or career interest. You can join clubs related to political groups, sports, multicultural topics, and more.

BASIC—Brothers and Sisters in Christ: Christian club. Members have gatherings and work closely with the BASIC group from UNI.
Chi Alpha: Chi Alpha exists to give every Hawkeye student an opportunity to encounter the love of God and grow with others.
Hawkeye Gamers Club: Special interest club. Members play group computer games.
Hawkeye Pride Organization: Student organization focused on the LGBTQ+ community and interests, education, and advocacy. The organization is a safe zone open to all LGBTQ+ and ally students.

International Student Organization: Club for students to learn about different cultures and traditions bridging the gap between International and American students.

Multicultural Student Organization: Diversity club that works to raise awareness of the diversity of Hawkeye Community College and the Cedar Valley.
Performing Arts Club: Special interest club for students desiring a performance experience in theater or musical arts.
Photography Club: Club for students interested in photography and photojournalism.
The Salt Company is the college ministry of Candeo Church that exists to help Hawkeye, UNI, and Wartburg students find their greatest joy in Jesus.

Starting a New Student Club or Organization

Clubs and organizations that want to register for funding and other benefits on campus must go through the Student Leadership Council.

Complete these form and submit them to the Student Leadership Council.

A proposed constitution, including the purpose, requirements of membership, organizational structure and proposed objectives or activities. See sample constitution [PDF].

All registered clubs must make a web page on the Hawkeye website. Email Krystal Grady with the following information:

Description: What your club is about and its goals.
Advisor Info: Name, phone, email, and office location.
Meeting Details: Date, time, and location of the first meeting.
Leadership Info: Names of the president, vice president, etc.
Photos: Pictures from events or activities.
Events: Past and upcoming activities.
Joining Info: How new members can join.

As per the Hawkeye Free Expression policy and state law, student organizations may register with the College, and receive the benefits and privileges of registration, without regard to the viewpoints or expression of the viewpoints of the student organization. By registering a student organization, the College does not sponsor, adopt, or represent the viewpoints or expression of viewpoints of a registered student organization.

Clubs/organizations must understand and follow the rules, requirements, and policies established by the Student Leadership Council and Student Activities office. Students and student organizations are expected to adhere to all College requirements and polices, particularly the Student Code of Conduct.
