Iowa Pesticide Applicator Testing is an exam that certifies you to safely apply pesticides and other chemicals, following local, state, and federal regulations. It’s required for anyone working in agriculture, pest control, landscaping, or any industry where pesticide use is involved.

Hawkeye's Testing Center provides Pesticide Applicator Testing, offered as a computer-based exam through Quia for the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS).

Cost = $20
It’s just $20 per half-day of testing. You can take as many different exams as needed, though each exam can only be taken once.
Contact the Business Office to pay your exam fee. You can pay by cash, check (made out to Hawkeye), or card.
On the Day of Your Test
- Check-in: The Testing Center is on the second floor of the Hawkeye Center.
- Bring ID: A valid, government-issued photo ID is required to take the exam. Acceptable IDs include a driver’s license, passport, or immigration green card. If you take a break between exams, you’ll need to show your ID again before continuing.
- Payment Receipt: Bring your receipt for the testing fee.
- What’s Provided: Hawkeye will provide everything you need for the exam, except for your Quia username/password.
Your photo ID is the only personal item allowed in the testing room. Any other items discovered during testing will result in your exam being ended, and the situation will be reported to the Pesticide Bureau.
You can store personal items in lockers, but it’s best to leave valuables at home or in your car. Hawkeye and the Pesticide Bureau are not responsible for any lost or damaged property.
