Barb Shepard of Cedar Falls, Iowa, is currently enrolled in the Liberal Arts Transfer Major at Hawkeye Community College. She previously graduated with her Associate of Applied Science in Accounting in May 2026, and anticipates completing her Associate of Arts in May 2027.
Outside the classroom, Barb is a member of the Student Leadership Council, serving as their activities assistant, and is involved with Hawkeye's chapter of Business Professionals of America. She is also an accounting tutor.
She is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society for community college students, and Tri-Alpha, the honor society for first-generation college students.
"Hawkeye has many wonderful opportunities for students," Barb said. "As a non-traditional student, I am grateful to have been able to participate in several of them."
Off campus, Barb works as bookkeeper for her family business and serves as secretary for the College Hill Conservatory Board. After graduating this spring Barb plans to transfer to a four-year university to pursue a bachelor's degree.
"It was important to me to serve as a student representative to the Board of Trustees because I wanted to learn more about how the college operates and makes important decisions," she said.
