Computers for Student Use

Whether you need to check your email, work on assignments, or browse the Internet, we've got you covered. Hawkeye offers convenient access to computers, printers, and Wi-Fi throughout campus to help you stay on top of your tasks. Take advantage of these resources designed to support your success.

You'll find kiosks all around the main campus, making it easy to check myHawkeye, your email, Canvas, or do a quick Internet search. Some kiosks even have printers for your convenience.

The Student Tutoring and Computer Lab is the perfect place to get your work done. You'll have access to over 80 computers, scanners, printers, and all the software you need for your classes. Best of all, it's only available to students, so it's just for you.

Computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and if you need help with any software, the lab coordinators are there to assist you. If you prefer to bring your own laptop, there are workstations and study tables available too.

The Hawkeye Library has computers available for you to use, whether you're a student, staff member, or even a member of the public.

You'll also have access to both color and black-and-white printers while using the Library's computers. The default setting is double-sided printing, but you can easily switch it to single-sided if you prefer.

Students can check out wireless laptops to take home to continue working on assignments and research. Just stop by the Library to check one out.

Printing and Copying On Campus

Need to print something on campus? Hawkeye provides easy access to printers through PaperCut, a system that helps you manage your printing balance and costs. Whether you're printing assignments, research, or personal documents, here's everything you need to know about printing on campus.

Students can print from kiosks across campus, or from computers in the Student Tutoring and Computer Lab (now located in the Library on the upper level in room 221) or the Library.

When you log in to any Hawkeye computer, you'll see a PaperCut pop-up showing your current balance.

Each time you print, the PaperCut pop-up will appear with the cost of your print job and your remaining balance. You can then choose to confirm and print or cancel to adjust your settings.

To use a photocopier on campus, log in with:

  • Your Hawkeye username and password
  • Your student ID number
  • A pre-paid print card

Once logged in, you'll see your name and current PaperCut balance displayed on the screen.

The cost to print or copy is calculated per piece of paper used.

  • Single sided, black and white: $0.05 / sheet
  • Double sided, black and white: $0.08 / sheet
  • Color: Color printing costs vary by printer, but it's approximately $0.15 per page.

PaperCut is a print management software used at Hawkeye to help you keep track of printing costs, save resources, and promote smarter printing habits. You can access your PaperCut account online using your Hawkeye username and password.

Each semester, all registered Hawkeye students receive a $25 print/copy balance in their PaperCut account. Every time you print or copy, the cost will be deducted from your balance.

If your balance gets low or reaches $0 or gets low, you can add funds to your account using a credit card or pre-paid Print Card. Simply log in to your PaperCut account online and click on "Add Credit" to add money to your balance.

Hawkeye students and guests can purchase pre-paid Print Cards at the Hawkeye Library.

Each Print Card contains a 16-digit ID number. When you log in to a Hawkeye computer or copier, simply enter the card's ID number in the PaperCut section. Your account will automatically be credited with the funds from your Print Card.
