Net Zero House Built By Hawkeye Students Featured in Cedar Valley Parade of Homes

See Hawkeye's Net Zero Home at the Parade of Homes!

A Net Zero house built by Hawkeye Community College students will be included in the 2025 Cedar Valley Parade of Homes September 12–13, 2025.

A Net Zero home produces as much energy as it consumes through advanced building techniques and the addition of renewable energy sources. For homeowners, this means lower utility bills, improved comfort, and a reduced carbon footprint.

The four bedroom, three bath ranch-style home at 1229 W 7th Street in Waterloo was constructed by students in the Sustainable Construction and Design program using insulating concrete forms, solar panels, Pella triple-pane windows, and high R-value insulation.

In 2022, Hawkeye was the first community college in the U.S. to receive the Zero Energy Design Designation from the U.S. Department of Energy for the Sustainable Construction and Design program.

Cedar Valley Parade of Homes is an annual showcase featuring a curated collection of brand-new and beautifully remodeled homes built by some of the most talented builders and designers in the Cedar Valley. It runs Friday, September 12, 5 – 8 PM and Saturday, September 13, 1 – 5 PM. Tickets can be purchased through the Cedar Valley Home Builders Association.
