Become a Student Representative on the Board of Trustees

  • August 19 - September 4, 2026

Make Your Voice Heard and Grow as a Leader

Hawkeye's Board of Trustees is looking for two student representatives—one from a career and technical program and one from a liberal arts transfer program.

If selected, you'll serve for up to a year (or less, if you're in a shorter program) and attend monthly Board meetings to give input on college decisions that impact students.

You won't be a voting member and you won't join private executive sessions—but in every other way, you'll be a full member of the Board, helping guide Hawkeye's future.

  • Serve as a member of the Board of Trustees. You'll participate in discussions but will not vote or attend private executive sessions.
  • Share the student perspective on topics the Board discusses. Your role is to represent students as a whole, not just one specific issue.
  • Attend Hawkeye Board of Trustees meetings once a month on the fourth Tuesday and take part in discussions.
  • Attend a Board orientation session before your first meeting.
  • Serve as a connection between the students you represent (Liberal Arts or Career and Technical) and the Board. You will provide a short update at each meeting, with support provided.
  • Submit a brief written update to the Vice President of Student Affairs by email at least one week before each Board meeting. Your update will help guide your presentation during the meeting.

  • Build leadership skills by serving on the Board of Trustees.
  • Learn how Hawkeye makes important decisions and how the college operates.
  • Get to know the Board of Trustees, the College President, Cabinet members, and other college leaders.
  • Enjoy dinner with the Board of Trustees, President, and Cabinet before each Board meeting.
  • Have the chance to attend local, regional, or national meetings and conferences, with eligible travel costs paid by Hawkeye.
  • Add valuable leadership experience to your résumé while building skills that will help you in college and your future career.

  • Be enrolled in at least 6 credits per semester
  • Have completed at least 6 credits at Hawkeye
  • Have and maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher
  • Be in good academic and disciplinary standing

You are not eligible to serve as the Student Representative if you are currently enrolled in high school or work for Hawkeye as a full-time or part-time employee. Student employees are eligible to apply.
