Recommended Immunizations

The following are recommendations from the American College Health Association, edited for Hawkeye Community College use.

Vaccine Major Indications
MMR
Measles, Mumps, Rubella
All college students born after 1956 without history of disease are recommended to have two doses of MMR vaccine.
Varicella
Chicken Pox
All college students without history of disease are recommended to have two doses of varicella vaccine.
Td, Tdap
Tetanus/pertussis
All college students are recommended to have a Td or Tdap vaccine within the last 10 years.
Hepatitis B All college students are recommended to have the Hepatitis B series which consists of 3 immunizations over the course of 6 months.
Meningitis (Menactra)
(A,C,Y,W-135)
All college students living in dormitories/residence halls or close quarters are recommended to have the Meningitis vaccine.
Influenza
Flu shot
All college students are recommended to get the flu shot annually.
HPV
Human Papillomavirus Vaccine
All female college students up to 26 years old are recommended to get the Human Papillomavirus Vaccine to prevent cervical cancer.
