Iowa Coaching Authorization Courses

Non-Credit Course for Non-Educators

• This is a 55-hour course taught on weekends - "Power Weekends".
• Course includes Theory of Coaching, Ethics, Care and Prevention of Athletic injuries, Human Growth & Development, and Anatomy & Physiology for Coaching. The program does not teach sport specific coaching.
• Classes are held at Hawkeye Community College Cedar Falls Center
  5330 Nordic Drive, Cedar Falls
• Friday hours are 5:00 – 10:00pm.
• Saturday and Sunday hours are 8:00am – 8:15pm with two half-hour breaks.
• Both weekends are required for the course.
• Cost: $350
• Note: Please arrive 1-hour early if you would like to have fingerprinting done the first day of class.

Applying for your Coaching License

With successful completion of the coaching authorization classes, you can apply to the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners for a coaching license.

1. Submit a check to The State of Iowa for $137 for the license and the cost of a background investigation.
2. The Iowa Board of Educational Examiners will send you a temporary license within 2 - 3 weeks of receiving your application.
3. After the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation background check is completed and if all is well, you will receive your permanent license. Please allow 6-8 weeks to receive your permanent license.
