Instructions & Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hawkeye's Tobacco Use Policy?

The use of tobacco products is not permitted on the campus grounds. Tobacco use is permitted only in designated areas in and near parking lots where smoking receptacles have been placed. Violators are subject to disciplinary action per Student/Personnel Handbook.

What is Hawkeye doing about mumps this semester?

As Iowa college students return to school this week, its likely mumps will reappear on college campuses and their communities if college students don’t receive the necessary two doses of MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccine. Of all people with mumps reported to the Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) during the spring mumps outbreak, approximately 25 percent were students enrolled in colleges in Iowa. Students were the source of mumps spread to Iowa communities. The reasons for high levels of illness and transmission in college-age students may include social interaction, close living environments and frequent local and interstate travel.

Iowa Department of Public Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American College Health Association (ACHA) believe it is critically important to decrease the risk of mumps among students and others in their communities. Vaccination with two doses of MMR is the single best defense against mumps and is 90 to 95 percent effective in protecting against mumps.

Students, 18-48 years old, can receive free or low-cost MMR vaccinations at the Hawkeye Student Health Center located in Grundy Hall room 215. Call 296-4224 for an appointment.
