Library Database Log-in Help

Off campus access to the library’s online databases and electronic books requires logging in with your Hawkeye Community College network username and password. If you have difficulty logging in, please follow the directions below.

Username

Username for Student Email/Online Library Resources

Each Hawkeye student has an individual user name and password for logging on to Hawkeye library online resources. The online resources username is the same used for your Hawkeye email and SOAR accounts. In most cases, your username is your legal first name[period]last name in lower case.

Example: The Hawkeye Community College email address for Bob Doe = robert.doe@hawkeyecollege.edu
Hawkeye email/online resources username = robert.doe

If you have a common legal name, such as John Smith, or are unsure of your username

  1. Go to "My Hawkeye"
  2. Click on SOAR
  3. Click on "What's My User ID?" located at the bottom of the page.
  4. Enter your Last Name and either your SSN OR your Colleague ID (seven numbers)
  5. Click on Submit

You need to create an email password, which will also be your password for using Hawkeye Community College library online resources. Your temporary password is the month, day and year of your birth expressed in six digits. Example: January 4 1983 = 010483

  1. Go to the log-in screen to log into your Hawkeye email account
  2. USERNAME – Your legal firstname.lastname in lower case. Example: Bob Doe = robert.doe
If you are unsure of what your username is, see username directions above.
  3. PASSWORD – Your initial password is the month, day, and year of your birth expressed in six digits.
    Example: January 4, 1983 = 010483
  4. You will be required to reset this password the first time you access your account.

Please be sure to use a password that you will remember.

If you are unable to create a password, contact the Academic Support Center . Passwords may also be reset by the library staff. Please bring a photo ID to the library when you make a request to have your password reset. If you are a distance education student and do not come to the main campus for classes, please contact your instructor.

After creating your email/online resources password, try logging into EBSCOhost from an off-campus computer. A log-on screen should appear. When you type in your online resource username and password, you should connect to Hawkeye’s EBSCOhost databases.

Not connecting? Call the Hawkeye Library at 319-296-4006. If possible, be at a computer so that we can walk through the problem together.
