Community and Continuing Education classes are offered at the Independence Center. These courses provide you the opportunity to gain new ideas, skills, and knowledge. Whether you take a class to learn a new hobby or just for fun, Hawkeye has a class for you.
Crocheting is relaxing hobby to enjoy anytime, anywhere. Learn how to crotchet with a hands on project. This is a beginner course and a choice of simple patterns will be available on the first evening. Please bring a "J" crochet hook and 6 skeins of 4 ply-yarn to the first evening of class.

Have you dreamed of getting your writing published, but don't know where to start? If so, this is the class for you. It is for anyone interested in writing; those who want to hone their craft, those who would like to supplement their income, and those who simply want to broaden their horizons.
You'll learn about query letters, proposals, agents, publishers, writing contests, marketing, memoir writing, and more. The class is interactive, informational, and fun. There will be a teeny-tiny writing assignment each week that will be shared with fellow-attendees during the following session. We will critique each other's writing, but there will be no "cold pricklies" or put-downs!
