Welcome to Hawkeye Community College! Did you know that more than half of all first-time college freshmen attend community colleges? In fact, research shows students who complete associate degrees and certificates are more likely to move into higher-status management and professional positions with higher earnings. The information below should help you decide if Hawkeye Community College is the right fit for your son or daughter.

         Nearly 50% of all undergraduate students nationwide are attending a community college. Community colleges offer an affordable education, as well as personal attention and small class sizes. In addition, community colleges are known for the strength of their career programs.

  • Excellence in Academics - Hawkeye has a 40-year history of providing academic excellence and offers 47 career programs plus its popular transfer option. Approximately 50% of Hawkeye's students plan to attend a 4-year institution.

  • Outstanding Job Placement Rate - Hawkeye has an exceptional job placement rate. The college's most recent Graduate Career Report shows 98% of the College's graduates are employed - with 89% working directly in their field of study or in a field that is closely related. Overall, 92% found employment in Iowa. Hawkeye has services to help students find work after graduation.

  • Affordable Tuition - Community colleges cost significantly less than state or private colleges. Many students will use the money saved by attending a community college to pay for their last two years at a 4-year college or university.

  • Financial Assistance - Hawkeye awards thousands of dollars in scholarships to students each year. There are many scholarship opportunities for students based on their major, GPA or other requirements. Be sure and check into special scholarships for new students graduating from high school. Hawkeye also offers other types of financial aid including grants, work study funds and loans. A deferred tuition payment program is also available. Financial aid is available for ALL students!

  • Personal Attention - Hawkeye's average class size is 22. Smaller classes allow faculty to get to know students and monitor their progress.

  • Student Health Services - Medical care and treatment is available on campus for students who become ill. Heath services are provided by registered nurses.

  • Student Support Services - Hawkeye Community College is committed to student learning and success. Hawkeye provides a number of services to ensure your son or daughter reaches their academic goals. Advisors and counselors are available to help students select a career and ultimately reach their goal.

  • Modern Facilities - With more than ten buildings on its main campus, Hawkeye continues to expand and upgrade its facilities. Thanks to the voters, a 25.1 million dollar bond issue passed in June of 2003. Funding highlights include an addition to Black Hawk Hall, a Student Learning Center, and a Student Health and Education Center.

  • Technology-Enriched Learning - Hawkeye is committed to preparing its students for the 21st century. Hawkeye has 50 computer labs for students to use (average lab size is 22). Hawkeye also has wireless ability for students in the Library to checkout a laptop and sit comfortably to do their work. The Academic Support Center has 88 computers and two full-time associates to help with homework and other student needs.

  • Housing Options - Hawkeye Towers and Hawkeye Village Apartments are located across from the main campus in Waterloo. For students wanting to experience dorm life on a college campus, the University of Northern Iowa offers student housing for Hawkeye students.

  • Student Life - Beyond the classroom, Hawkeye offers students a variety of ways to get involved including intramurals, clubs & organizations, and events and activities.

  • Safety on Campus - Hawkeye's goal is to ensure the safety of its students, faculty and staff. Public safety officers are available on campus 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. Officers are available to escort students to and from class if they feel uncomfortable walking alone.

  • Experience Hawkeye - Parents, you are encouraged to attend one of the scheduled visit days here on campus with your prospective student! If you can't attend, just call the admission's office at 319-296-4000 to set-up an individual tour.
