The EMC² Program offers you a chance to learn about careers in manufacturing through hands-on training, money, and college credit. Beginning the summer following your junior year, you will participate in a six-week summer internship at a manufacturing company and earn $300 with another $300 to be placed in an educational account for your future tuition. The internship will include training in OSHA 501, team building, communication skill building, human relations, and machining. During your senior year in high school, you will participate in a paid 180-hour internship at other sites. Following graduation, you will return again to the company for a second six-week summer internship. This internship focuses on additional team building skills, communication skill building, CNC machining, lean manufacturing, and quality processes. You will also take a metal casting course at the University of Northern Iowa.
After you complete the EMC² program, you will transition into the CNC Machining Technician program at Hawkeye Community College. Once you have successfully completed a year at Hawkeye, you will graduate with a two-year degree. You will then be able to either enter the workforce or continue your education at UNI to earn a four-year degree.
