Assessment and Testing — Review at Metro

Review courses are offered on an independent study basis to help you develop your math and reading skills. You may enroll in a review course at any time; attend at times that are convenient for you, and progress at your own pace. Each course takes approximately 60-75 hours to complete and must be completed in six months.

Reading Improvement

This course is designed to improve a student's reading ability. Students will complete exercises to improve comprehension, vocabulary, and speed.

Writing Review

Students in this course will write a variety of sentences and paragraphs and a research paper. In addition, they will review punctuation, grammar, and spelling.

Math Review

This course covers the computation of whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percents. Application skills using word problems are also provided.

Prealgebra, Semester 1

Mathematical functions covered include: whole number operations, exponents, order of operations, algebraic expressions, integer operations, linear equations, fraction operations, decimal operations, and square roots.

Prealgebra, Semester 2

Mathematical functions covered include: graphing, averages, medians, modes, ratios, proportions, measurement, percents, and polynomials. Basic geometric principles are also introduced. Prerequisite: Prealgebra, Semester 1 or the equivalent.

Algebra I, Semester 1

Students in this course will study signed numbers; non-fractional equations; adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions; and fractional equations. In addition, students will study the commutative properties of addition and subtraction, factoring and the distributive principle, the interchange principle, the oppositing principle, and the identity principle of multiplication.

Algebra I, Semester 2

In this course students will study graphing, literal fractions, formula arrangement, equation and formula derivation, squares and square root radicals, and equations and formulas containing squares and square root radicals. Prerequisite: Algebra I, Semester 1 or the equivalent.
