Hawkeye Foundation Announces New Board Members

WATERLOO—Peg Brown, executive director of the Hawkeye Community College Foundation, recently announced the election of three new members to the Foundation Board. Kris Hansen, Mark Kittrell, and Jim Mudd, Jr. joined the Hawkeye Foundation Board in July. The Hawkeye Foundation’s mission is to enhance community awareness of Hawkeye Community College; manage money or property donated to the foundation; and secure private contributions, bequests, and donations.

Kris Hansen is vice president of Western Home Communities where he is involved in strategic planning, development, and finance. He is a graduate of Upper Iowa University and is a Certified Public Accountant. Hansen also completed the Nursing Home Administrator program at Des Moines Area Community College. He is past-chair and is actively involved in the Iowa Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (IAHSA). In addition, he serves as treasurer of The Greater Cedar Valley Chamber of Commerce - Cedar Falls and is a board member of Greater Cedar Valley Alliance.

Mark Kittrell is co-founder of TEAM Companies and has been involved in information technology for over twenty years. Kittrell leveraged his experience into his newest venture, TEAM Technologies, a data center services provider. Kittrell is actively involved in multiple volunteer organizations including the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance, Technology Association of Iowa, Cedar Valley Venture Fund, and the Iowa Department of Economic Development’s IT Development Committee. His interests also extend to community support opportunities such as the United Way, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and others.

Jim Mudd, Jr. is CEO of Mudd Advertising and is responsible for the overall management and profitability of the company. Mudd oversees the company’s growth initiatives, including facilities and personnel, and works closely with other executive leaders to ensure quality customer service for all clients. He has held positions of account manager, new business manager, senior vice president and general manager of the agency. He has been in his current role of CEO since July 2001. He is a member of the Iowa Chapter of the Young Presidents’ Organization and a board member of the Beaver Hills Country Club. Mudd graduated from North Iowa Area Community College and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Northern Iowa.

Brown stated, “The addition of these distinguished individuals brings unique qualities and expertise that will enhance the effectiveness of the Hawkeye Foundation. Their support, expertise, and commitment to higher education will make a difference in helping us achieve our fundraising goals.”

New officers elected for the Foundation Board include Linda Laylin, president; John Rathjen, vice president; Debra Lilly, treasurer; and Emile Leighty, secretary. Also serving on the Board are Vicki Angove, Doug Beed, Sally Browne, Joyce Coil, Tim Luce, Nancy Pinkston, Marv Schumacher, and Sarah Yagla. Founding members serving on the Board include Ken Allbaugh, Harold Brock, and Harlan Van Gerpen. Trustee representatives include Luane Lorenzen and Donna Miller. The following individuals completed their terms: Frank Dowie, Jerry Harris, and Tim Manatt.

By raising funds from private sources, the Foundation provides scholarships, assists in providing educational opportunities outside the classroom, supports faculty and staff development, purchases equipment, and assists with support services.
