Financial Aid Eligibility Requirements

Students must meet the following eligibility requirements to receive financial aid.

  1. Attend class
    • Federal regulations require Hawkeye Community College to monitor class attendance. The regulations require that students "attend courses" in order to receive financial assistance. Therefore, students who are reported as no longer attending class will have a last date of attendance determined. A refund formula will be applied to determine the amount of financial aid the student was eligible to receive during the period they attended. This regulation allows the Federal Government to have unearned financial assistance returned to the Federal Government for the period of non-attendance.
  2. Be enrolled at least half-time
    • Students must be enrolled in at least six credit hours per semester - Fall, Spring, Summer.
    • Students must be enrolled for a minimum of three credit hours to receive consideration for financial aid. A minimum of six credit hours is needed to receive consideration for a loan.
    • Students who withdraw from a course(s) and are then enrolled for five or fewer credit hours will cancel any future loan disbursements.
    • Students must be accepted in an eligible academic program (Nursing Assistant, RN First Assistant, and General Studies-Part Time programs do not qualify).
    • Students withdrawing from the college are subject to the current refund policy and the college may retain an administrative fee of 5% of tuition and fees up to a maximum of $100.
  3. Students are required to notify the Financial Aid Office of any scholarships received.
  4. Students may only receive financial aid from one school at a time. Please see a financial aid advisor if you are enrolled at two or more colleges at the same time.
  5. Students cannot be in default on any student loans or owe a refund of Federal or State grants.
  6. Students must complete a Loan Entrance Counseling session and a Master Promissory Note.
