Applying for Financial Aid

Four easy steps to apply for Financial Aid

  1. Complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
    • Online application
    • Hawkeye's FAFSA college code is 004595
    • It is recommended that your FAFSA be completed by July 1
  2. Student Aid Report (SAR)
    • The federal processing center will send you your SAR either electronically or in the mail.
    • Your SAR report will indicate if your application is selected for the verification process. Selected applicants must submit:
      1. a signed copy of student and parents (if a dependant) Federal Income Tax Return from the previous year
      2. a Federal verification worksheet which will be mailed to the applicant by the Financial Aid Office
    • Review your SAR. If needed, make any corrections and resubmit the SAR back to the processor.
    • If no corrections are needed, keep the SAR for your records.
  3. Financial Aid Award Letter
    • After successfully completing steps 1 and 2, the applicant will receive a Financial Aid Award Letter informing them of their eligibility for financial aid. The applicant is required to either accept or reject federal loans before the student can receive the loan. Read the award letter and supplemental information carefully.
    • Please note: All awards are based on full-time enrollment prior to the start of the semester. If you do not intend to be a full-time student either Fall or Spring semester, please notify the Financial Aid Office immediately.
