1.) All
instructors have office hours. We are all located in Grundy Hall, so
contact me via my e-mail or by phone, ext. 1384.
2.)
Math Lab in GR 209 has limited
hours.
3.) Seek help in
the Academic Support Center, BR 116. Math tutors are available most
hours during the day and early evening. Ask the secretary in the ASC for math
tutors schedules.
All students who use the
Academic Support Testing services must adhere to the following testing policies:
- BEGINNING
SPRING 2003 students must present a clear photo ID (a Hawkeye ID or a
driver’s license) every time they test. No exceptions will be made to
this policy.
- The testing
supervisor will provide scratch paper or additional blank sheets of paper for
testing. Students need to bring calculators, answer booklets, pencils,
or other materials specified by the instructor.
- The testing
supervisor will not change or amend an instructor’s testing
instructions. Only the materials - calculators, notes, textbooks, etc.-
approved by the instructor and checked off on the testing slip will be allowed
in the testing room.
- Other
students are not allowed in the testing room while a student is
testing.
- Students are
not allowed to leave the testing room once they have begun testing unless they
have a documented medical condition that warrants testing breaks.
Students need to provide ASC testing staff with the necessary documentation
before they begin using testing services.
- Cell phones
are not allowed in the testing rooms.
- Students may
not take purses, any type of backpack, outer wear such as coats, jackets,
hats, mittens and gloves into the testing room. The testing supervisor
has the authority to make on-the-spot and case-by-case decisions about any
items that seem inappropriate for students to take into the testing
room.
- Students who
are caught cheating will be suspended from future testing opportunities until
disciplinary actions have been determined. The instructor will be
notified immediately and all testing materials will be returned to
her/him.
3.) If you are
in Col Alg, Trig, or Calc I, a series of videotapes is
available for checkout from the Math Lab. These videotapes contain lessons that
accompany our text and follow the format and style of the text.
4.) Spend time
every day on the homework problems, becoming proficient with your
calculator and reviewing your notes. You will be able to ask questions for
clarification the next class so you are ready for the next lesson. This will
also eliminate the need to “cram” for a test or quiz.
5.) Attend
class. There is no substitute for this.
