Program Description This program is designed to provide its graduates with entry level skills to find employment in the die making, moldmaking, patternmaking, and related skilled trade areas. toolmakers are responsible for building and maintaining a wide variety of special fixtures and tools utilized by the industry for mass production of identical parts for the transportation, or room and broad spectrum of manufacturing. Graduates are awarded an Associate in Applied Science Degree. Employment Employment for Tool & Die Making graduates is excellent in regard to starting wages and overtime potential. The starting salary range generally varies from $13 to $15 per hour up to $25 per hour as a journeyman. With overtime, earnings can range from $40,000 to $60,000 per year. Employment opportunities with potential advancement include machinist, tool and die maker, moldmaker, patternmaker, and inspector/supervisor.90% Placment Program Length And Entrance Dates The Tool and Die program is five semesters in length. Students enter in the fall and graduate in the spring. Please contact the Industrial, Engineering, and Information Technology Department at 319-296-4009 to discuss other starting term options. Costs Estimated costs for Iowa residents is $11,500 for the program. This includes tuition, books, tools, and supplies, but does not include room and board. This program is approved for Veteran's benefits. Financial aid and work-study is available. Admission Requirements The applicant must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Helpful courses are industrial education, drafting, mathematics, machine shop, and communication skills. Applicants may be required to complete basic skills evaluation during the admissions process. A personal interview session may also be required.
