New Permit - Classroom Training & Firearms Qualification

Obtain the training required to secure a new Iowa Permit to Carry Weapons. Hawkeye's Concealed Weapons training course meets the state requirements to apply for a non-professional permit.
The course includes classroom instruction and shooting qualification on the range. You must achieve a 60% score shooting 10 rounds from a distance of 45 feet at a bull's-eye target to earn your weapon permit. Instructors will not provide shooting instruction or teach shooting techniques. You will learn: - legal use of force with a firearm
- carrying a firearm legally
- safe storage of a firearm per Iowa Code (Ch. 724.22-7)
Hawkeye will supply 10 rounds of ammunition for range qualification. Qualifications will be conducted on either the outdoor or indoor range, depending on weather conditions.

- Call Business and Community Education Registration at 319-296-4290.
- Provide drivers license number and payment.
- Payment is required 48 hours prior to class start date to ensure your seat.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English. No interpreters are allowed.
What you will need to bring to class: - Protective eye and ear gear.
- Note taking materials.
- Your weapon. Weapons are restricted to .22, .38/.357, .40, .45, and 9MM. No other caliber weapons will be allowed.
Transport your pistol or revolver in a vehicle in compliance with Iowa Code (Ch 724.4). "...inside a closed and fastened container or securely wrapped package which is too large to be concealed on the person or inside a cargo or luggage compartment where the pistol or revolver will not be readily accessible to any person riding in the vehicle or common carrier."
Leave the weapon in your vehicle when you arrive for class, and leave it in the trunk until instructed otherwise. These items cannot be brought to class: - optic sights
