We have many services in the ASC to accommodate your needs. Please contact Barbara Hill in Student Services at 319-296-2320 x1528, bhill@hawkeyecollege.edu, or visit the Student Services office located on the upper level of the Hawkeye Center to identify your need and help set up assistance.
Many instructors use our testing services for make-up tests and for delivering accommodations for students with disabilities.
If you think you qualify for special needs accommodations please contact the Student Services (Hawkeye Center, upper level) and complete the appropriate forms.
When you need to take a test, call (319) 296-4029 ext. 1098 or come into the ASC Testing Center, located in Bremer Hall Room 125, and make an appointment with the testing monitor. The accommodations include extended testing time, quiet test rooms, test readers, and other reasonable accommodations. Testing appointments should be scheduled as soon as possible as accommodations are limited.
The Adaptive Equipment Lab consists of two computers equipped with adaptive peripherals and software. This includes JAWS, Open Book, Dragon Naturally Speaking, and a hands free mouse. A CCTV, a scanner, and an adaptive keyboard are also available.
Our computer coordinators can help you learn to use the equipment and applications so that you can become proficient in using speech-to-text and text-to-speech applications, as well as other adaptive technologies. Please see Student Services first to determine your needs.
Students with special needs are introduced to the adaptive equipment that can help them with the tasks of reading, writing, and using the computer. Several training sessions are necessary for students to be able to use the equipment effectively. Students can call 319-296-4029 or come into the ASC to set up individual appointments for training.
