The computer lab is open to all full or part time Hawkeye students. In order to use the lab students must have a Student User Name, which is assigned to students upon registration. If you are unsure of your Student User Name, it can be looked up in the ASC.
YES! The computer lab is staffed with knowledgeable helpers to answer your questions and teach you how to use the computers or a specific software package. We don’t claim to have all the answers, but we can assist you with many of your questions.
Hawkeye uses web-based student email which you can access from any computer that has access to the internet, on or off campus. Your Student User Name is also your email address. For example, if your user name is john.smith, your email address will be john.smith@hawkeyecollege.edu.
If you are having problems logging onto your e-mail and your password needs to be reset, you need to come in to the Academic Support Center or the Library. Passwords CANNOT be reset over the telephone or via e-mail. You will also need to bring a valid picture ID, such as your Hawkeye photo ID or Driver's license. If you are a Distance Learning student, please contact your class instructor.
YES, there are several techniques for doing this. Stop at the ASC computer lab and pick up a hand out or have a staff member assist you.
Downloading and installing instant message software such as Yahoo, AOL instant messenger, ICQ, or MS Messenger is not allowed due to the impact it has on the network speed and efficiency.
Installing, downloading, or playing web based games is not allowed on campus.
You may bring your own CD’s and headphones to listen to music while you work in the lab. You may also use personal CD or MP3 players with head phones. Volume must be set so that the music cannot be heard by other students working around you. Downloading music files or listening to music online is not allowed.
All computers on campus are protected against viruses by the latest software and virus definition files available.
At this time it is not possible for students or staff to log onto the Hawkeye network from outside campus. If you need to work on a file at home we recommend that you use a USB drive or email your files to yourself. If you aren’t sure how to do this, we will be glad to assist you.
