Hawkeye Community College Graduation Set for December 15

WATERLOO—The Commencement ceremony for Hawkeye Community College graduates will be held Thursday, December 15, at 6:30 p.m. Hawkeye’s December graduation will be held in Hawse Auditorium in Tama Hall on the main campus.
Jamie Bute will be the keynote speaker. Bute was named the recipient of the President’s Award for Outstanding Service in 2010 for her dedication to student learning and for leading with technology. Her desire to learn new things is evident in her continued pursuit of knowledge. She is the director for the Respiratory Care program at Hawkeye Community College. She resides in Waterloo is a Columbus High School graduate.
After graduating from Hawkeye Community College in 1997 with a diploma in Respiratory Care, she began working as a Respiratory Therapist at Allen Hospital in Waterloo. She immediately realized she wanted to learn more and returned to earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Respiratory Care. While continuing to work full time, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree from Independence University in Salt Lake City, Utah. Bute began teaching at Hawkeye Community College in 2004 and made it her full-time career in 2006. Since that time, she has earned an Associate of Arts Degree, also from Hawkeye Community College, and is currently attending the University of Northern Iowa pursuing a Master’s Degree in Psychology.
Students who have completed certificates, diplomas, or degrees in the 2011 Fall Semester will be participating. Family and friends who are unable to attend can view the live broadcast on the Internet by going to www.hawkeyecollege.edu/go/graduation. The graduation ceremony will be rebroadcast beginning December 16 through January 1 at 10:00 a.m., and 4:00 p.m., and 8:00 p.m. on Waterloo/Cedar Falls Mediacom – for a TV without a set top box - Channel 79;5 and for a TV with a set top box; and Tripoli, Plainfield, Clarksville-Butler-Bremer Communications – Channel 70 Basic. For Cedar Falls Channels, it will be rebroadcast December 16 through January 1 at 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Channel 18; CFU Cedar Falls – without a set top box - Channel 95.3 and with a CFU set top box SD - Channel 19, due to a channel sharing agreement with UNI.
