Two Students Awarded National Scholarships

Prior to Hawkeye’s Commencement Ceremony on May 14, graduate Kendra Dickinson was presented with a Coca-Cola Silver Scholar award, receiving a scholarship for $1,250 and a silver medallion. Dickinson graduated with Presidential Honors earning a 4.00 with a degree in Business Administration. She is from Oskaloosa where she graduated in 2006 from home school. Dickinson was named one of 300 students from across the nation to be recognized as a Coca-Cola All-State Community College Academic Team. Only fifty of these received Gold Scholar Awards, fifty received Silver Scholar Awards, and fifty received Bronze Scholar Awards. Nearly $500,000 was given this year for annual stipends. In addition to the 150 Scholar Award winners, there were 150 National Finalists who also received a $1,000 scholarship. Graduate Andrew Skinner was recognized as a National Finalist Scholar awards. Skinner also graduated with Presidential Honors earning a 4.00 in Liberal Arts Studies while at Hawkeye, and is a 2008 graduate of Denver High School. Dickinson and Skinner went through an extensive application process including essays, letters of recommendation, and community and school involvement. Over 1,500 community, technical, and junior college nominees from across the world applied for the national scholarship. The 2010 All-USA Academic Team competition was sponsored by USA TODAY, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and the American Association of Community Colleges.
