Part-time Students (Registering for less than 12 credits)

Liberal Arts Courses Only

  • Contact the Records and Registration Office at 319-296-2460
  • You will need to provide:
    • name
    • address
    • social security number
    • course name
    • course section number (example: 021361)
  • If you are taking your FIRST MATH or WRITING course, you are REQUIRED to provide acceptable ACT scores, recent college course work with a passing grade in math or writing, or take the COMPASS Assessment.

Full-time Students (Registering for more than 12 credit hours or have completed 12 or more credits at Hawkeye)

  1. Complete an Application for Admission (No application fee)

    • Online application for admission
    • Print and mail your application [pdf] for admission
    • Or have an application sent to you. Contact the Admissions Office at 319-296-4000 or 800-670-4769 ext.4000.
    • Please Note:

      Prospective students should apply as soon as possible. Many programs/courses fill early.
      Students can only be considered for one program/major per semester.

  2. Send Official Transcripts (Transcript must be sent directly from an institution to the Admissions Office in a sealed envelope.)

    • High School Transcripts – Send your official high school transcript, showing graduation, or your General Education Development (GED) test scores to the Admissions Office.
    • College Transcripts – If you have attended any other colleges, trade, or business schools and want to receive possible credit, please ask for official transcripts to be mailed to the Admissions Office.
    • International students – Should have the results of their TOEFL tests sent to the Admissions Office.
  3. Send ACT scores and/or register for the COMPASS Assessment

    Assessment provides information about your academic skills in reading, writing, and math. This information will be used in determining acceptance, course selection, and registration. Program/major admission score requirements vary.

    Types of Assessment Accepted

    1. ACT Scores – ACT scores of 19 or above on the reading, math, and English sub-scores can be used to meet Hawkeye's assessment requirement.
    2. Previous college experience – Assessment MAY be waived based on courses taken, credits earned, and grades received at a previous college. Please have official college transcripts sent to the Admissions Office for evaluation.
    3. COMPASS Assessment – The COMPASS Assessment in math, reading, and writing will be given to students when options A OR B are not met. Contact the Student Services Office at 319-296-4014 or 800-670-4769 ext.4014 to make an appointment.
  4. Confirmation

    All applicants will be notified of acceptance/non-acceptance in writing after the completion of steps 1, 2, and 3. After reviewing the applicant's assessment scores and program/major admission requirements, a start date is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

    • Accepted Students: Students will be accepted to a future term when their program is full. Pre-coursework can be taken while waiting to get into their program/major. Contact the Student Services Office at 319-296-4014 or 800-670-4769 ext.4014 to make an appointment.
    • Students Not Accepted: Students not accepted to a particular program/major have the option of taking pre-coursework in order to meet the requirements. Upon successful completion of pre-coursework, students must re-apply. Contact the Student Services Office at 319-296-4014 or 800-670-4769 ext.4014 to make an appointment.
  5. Registering for Classes

    Students are mailed information about registration and orientation from the individual departments.
