Recreational use of the Health Education and Services Center facility is limited to approved members.
All persons wishing to utilize the Health Education and Services Center are required to sign a HESC Waiver and Release of Liability Form and possess and present a current Hawkeye ID or scan in using the finger scanner each time they use the facility.
Guests visiting the Health Education and Services Center for non-recreational purposes must sign in and out at the front desk and be accompanied by a member.
Verification of status may take up to 48 hours after applying to use the Health Education and Services Center.
Members will be charged $5 to replace a Hawkeye Card ID.
Members
Members are defined as any patron using the Health Education and Services Center facility for recreational purposes.
Credit students, high school students enrolled in credit classes, and Hawkeye faculty and staff are eligible for membership.
Retirees, contracted employees, police academy students, sponsored adults, and guests are eligible for a fee-based membership.
Credit students are defined as students who are:
- Currently enrolled in at least one academic credit hour.
- Pay activity fees.
- In good standing as defined in the Hawkeye Student Handbook.
Use of the facility for recreational purposes begins on the first day of the month that the class begins and ends on the last day of the month that the student attended classes.
Students who attended classes the previous spring semester and are registered for fall semester classes may continue using the HESC facility throughout the summer.
High school students who are taking Hawkeye credit classes while also enrolled in high school can utilize the Health Education and Services Center for recreational purposes.
Concurrent enrollment students (your high school pays your tuition) must pay the student activity fees reflective of the number of credits they are enrolled in to be granted member status to the Health Education and Services Center.
Credits are confirmed through the High School Partnerships office.
Hawkeye faculty and staff have access to use the Health Education and Services Center as a member for recreational purposes.
Faculty are defined as full-time or adjunct instructors currently teaching applied science, applied arts, associate of arts, or associate of science credit courses.
Staff are full-time or part-time employees as defined in the Hawkeye Personnel Handbook.
Fee-Based Members
Membership fees must be paid in full to activate the membership.
Fees are used to pay for equipment, maintenance, and facility updates.
Fee-based members will pay the same fees for group fitness classes and personal training sessions as Hawkeye employees.
Per the Employee Handbook, retirees must have achieved 10 consecutive years of full-time employment at Hawkeye.

Police Academy students currently enrolled in an academy session are eligible to use the Health Education and Services Center for recreational purposes.

A qualified Hawkeye employee, retiree, or contracted employee can sponsor one adult.
The sponsored adult must be 18 years old or older and reside in the same household as the sponsor.

Sponsored Adult Verification Process
The sponsoring member and the sponsored adult are required to complete the verification process together.

Student, Employee, or Retiree Verification: The sponsoring member must show their employee badge.

The sponsored adult must provide proof of address. Please provide one of the following documents to verify the sponsored adult's address:
- Driver’s License
- Passport
- Piece of mail
- Must be addressed to the sponsored adult
- Must be postmarked within four weeks of the current date.
- Must be official mail, i.e. bill.
- Hand addressed, personal mail, or advertisements are not valid.

HESC staff will use the college database to verify that the addresses match.

Membership Fee: Full payment of the desired membership will be required before using the HESC. Cash or check only.

Membership Policies: The sponsored adult will receive a copy of policies.

HESC Waiver and Release of Liability form: The sponsored adult will sign the HESC Waiver and Release of Liability form.

Membership ID card: Upon successful completion of all the above steps, the HESC staff will make the sponsored adult an ID card.
If the sponsor no longer has active membership status, the sponsored adult's membership is automatically cancelled. The membership fee will not be refunded.
Guests, if accompanied by a student, faculty, or staff member, are allowed to use the Health Education and Services Center for recreational purposes.
Guests visiting the Health Education and Services Center with a member must sign the guest pass waiver and guest tracking form.
Guests may be granted a guest pass for a maximum of two weeks.
Guests must follow the guest pass policies.
