If you are called to active duty during the semester you must submit a copy of the activation orders in order to be considered for this policy. The date you are ordered to active duty will be the date used for this policy.
Withdrawing From Classes
If you are called to active duty before the 2/3 point in your class(es):
- You will be given a grade of "W" and a full refund of tuition and mandatory fees.
- You are responsible for any course fees or tools that were purchased and not returned.
If you are called to active duty after the 2/3 point in your class(es):
You will have the choice of receiving the grade you are currently earning based on all work due at the time of activation or a grade of “W”.
If you choose to receive the grade, tuition and fees will not be refunded.
If you choose to receive a “W”, a full refund of tuition and mandatory fees will be granted.
You are responsible for any course fees or tools that were purchased and not returned.
Your Financial Aid
The Financial Aid office will run a return calculation if you have received financial aid for the classes you are withdrawing from. The Financial Aid office with use the later of the following dates in the calculation: Your activation date or the last date of an academically related activity.
If the financial aid return calculation requires that financial aid funds be returned to the Department of Education and you have received a credit balance check, you will be responsible for repaying Hawkeye Community College.
If you owe a balance as a result of returned financial aid, the Business Office will make payment arrangements with you. Your balance will not be turned over for collection and you will not be stopped from registering in subsequent terms upon your return as long as payment arrangements have been made.
