A good story has the power to transform. It cuts across boundaries and sparks meaningful discussion.

Hawkeye Reads is a campus-wide program that seeks to support the college’s Institutional Outcomes and increase literacy. It promotes dialogue among students, faculty, and staff across the campus. To put it simply, Hawkeye Reads uses reading to build community.

How to Get a Free Copy

  • Physical copies of the book are available at the Library and at various campus locations.
  • The ebook is also available on Hoopla via the Hawkeye Library.

Adopt the Hawkeye Reads book selection for your class!

Connect an assignment, discussion or project to the 2025 – 2026 Institutional Learning Outcome, Value Self and Others, to tie the book to your course.

Use the resources in the Hawkeye Reads Canvas module. Search Canvas Commons using keywords "Hawkeye Reads".

Visit the Library's Hawkeye Reads Research Guide or contact a member of the Hawkeye Reads committee.

Request copies of the book for your courses and the Library will arrange delivery/pick up for your students.

Nominate a Book for Hawkeye Reads

Hawkeye Reads book nominations are being accepted on an on-going basis.

Suggestions should ideally support the 2025 – 2026 Institutional Learning Outcome, Value Self and Others: Recognize and appreciate diversity and the global perspective, work collaboratively as a member of a team, make ethical decisions, demonstrate social responsibility, engage in leadership activities, demonstrate skills such as self-awareness and self-advocacy.
