What You Get

The Early Childhood Teacher Transfer program helps you build a strong foundation for your Pre-K through third grade teaching career with courses that transfer easily to a four-year college or university.

Develop and expand the knowledge and skills you'll take into the field as a future teacher, such as:

  • Understand how children grow and learn at different ages.
  • Use children's books to support learning and spark imagination.
  • Use technology to create lessons and manage the classroom.
  • Speak with confidence to students, parents, and coworkers.
  • Support all students, including those with different learning needs and backgrounds.
  • Write clearly and effectively for classroom communication and lesson planning.

Level One Field Experiences

Start building confidence as a future teacher right away. Your courses include a blend of lecture and application.

You’ll have plenty of hands-on, experiential learning opportunities, such as level one field experiences. These real-world experiences are integral to developing the practical skills and knowledge you’ll need to succeed in elementary education.

In the second year of this program, you’ll go out into the classrooms and begin active level one observations with cooperating teachers.

Teaching Portfolio

You will develop a portfolio of teaching strategies and tools. Prepare lesson plans, activity packets, teaching aides, and more.

Classroom Technology

Experience the technology of the modern-day classroom, including electronic assessment practices and interactive technology on whiteboards, iPads, and laptops.

With additional education, here are some of the careers in the early childhood field:

  • Pre-kindergarten Teacher
  • Elementary Teacher (K-3rd grade)
  • Childcare Director
  • Substitute Teacher
  • Early Intervention Instructor
  • Early Childhood Special Education Teacher

Your AA in Early Childhood Teacher Licensure is designed to transfer because you will need to complete at least a bachelor's degree to become a teacher. We help make transferring as easy as possible.

An articulation agreement is a formal partnership between Hawkeye and another college or university that helps make sure the classes you take count toward your transfer.

Hawkeye holds articulation agreements in elementary education with the University of Northern Iowa (Cedar Falls) and Upper Iowa University (Fayette and Waterloo) .
