JOB SUMMARY: This individual coordinates all ABE/HSC hybrid and online classes, and all computer literacy classes for students in ABE/HSC program. Teaches digital literacy classes and hybrid or online HSC classes as needed. Provides professional development for ABE/HSC classroom teachers on best practice uses of technology in teaching, best practices for hybrid instruction, and how to incorporate use of new technology such as clickers and iPads into instruction. Provides or coordinates job training for newly hired digital literacy teachers as well as digital literacy training for ABE/HSC teachers. Serves as lead instructor and supervisor for all other digital literacy teachers. Facilitates computer-based instruction for ABE/HSC teachers. Maintains good communication with Director, by providing information about digital literacy current trends and practices, in addition to concerns, issues, and changes within the college and community. Assists Director with maintenance of webpages and develops a plan for use of social media by the ABE/HSC program. Ensures program compliance with state requirements for distance education. Collaborates with college personnel on all necessary data tracking for ABE/HSC distance education. Maintains ABE/HSC records. Stays current on use of computer-based instructional curricular materials and provides in-service for staff on best practices for using these programs. Researches new computer-based ABE/HSC course materials and instructional models that include use of computer-based instruction. Makes recommendations for purchases of new digital literacy teaching materials and equipment for ABE/HSC program. Continues to develop the digital literacy curriculum for ABE/HSC. Serves as a resource person for ABE/HSC staff. Assists assessment staff with computer-based assessments such as CASAS and COMPASS as needed. Oversees set up and management of COMPASS Pal program as needed. Collaborates with college and community personnel on the NCRC computer-based exams as needed. Collaborates with college personnel to ensure all digital teaching equipment stays in good working order. Attends meetings with community and college groups as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field. Equivalency of at least one year teaching experience required. Highly developed skills in interpersonal relations. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to manage multiple projects and objectives simultaneously. Highly developed computer skills, including experience teaching computer literacy and/or teaching in an online environment. Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends. Ability to work with and provide customer service for diverse populations (faculty, staff, students, and general public). Ability to work collaboratively with staff from multiple departments. Preferences include teaching certification; experience teaching adult basic education or HSC preparation classes; experience with low-literacy level adults and/or high school equivalency programming; knowledge of instructional strategies and materials for teaching adult basic education; experience developing computer literacy curriculum; experience with computer-based assessments; experience planning and providing professional development especially in area of digital literacy; and experience supervising staff.
