SQL Server Reporting Specialist Analyst

JOB SUMMARY: This individual is responsible for development, production maintenance and reporting of institutional data using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and SQL Reporting Services. This position requires working with database structures and modeling, query tools, report writers and customer report programming. The tools used include SQL Server Management Studio, Business Intelligence Development Studio, Analysis Services, SQL, Transact SQL, and Datatel/Colleague. Ability to write and troubleshoot SQL Code and design stored procedures, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, and constraints. Investigates, analyzes, and prioritizes data and uses both technical and interpersonal skills to draft and propose effective solutions. Troubleshoots any problems that arise from the reports, the database, the software, and software configuration. Writes queries to extract data and data structures of the system. Develops, manages, and maintains reports and/or data extracts for use by individual users (e.g. assessment information, enrollment, student progress, etc.) for the purpose of providing information customized to meet specific needs. Checks the accuracy of data from reports. Works with member college representatives to design, create, implement, and maintain reporting capabilities and standards. Works closely with technical and non-technical end users, gathering ad hoc reporting requirements, converting requirements into technical specifications, and training how to produce and use reports. Collaborates in development of user materials (e.g., FAX, training support handouts, field definitions, etc.). Actively participates in cross-training functions as both teacher and student. Performs other duties as assigned.
 

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in one of the following subject areas: Computer Science, Business Administration, Information Technology or related field preferred or an Associate’s degree and two years working knowledge and experience in Microsoft SQL Server and Reporting Services. At least two years working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and SQL Reporting Services. Experience in an information systems development environment with a focus on database programming. Experience in Microsoft Office Suite. It is recognized that the individual selected will need training in the specific technical tools but is expected to have competencies in SQL, databases, stored procedures, views and programming as well as SQL Reporting Services. Working knowledge of relational databases and query retrieval languages. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to prioritize activities, meets deadlines, quickly diagnose problems and provide clear resolution. Self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail. Strong analytical and documentation skills. Strong written and interpersonal communication and organizational skills. Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical personnel. Excellent customer service skills with a commitment to providing quality service. Preferences include advanced skills in the use of Microsoft SQL Server administration and maintenance; database design, developing cube dimensions and measures, custom report programming utilizing SQL Query Builder or other applications such as: Datatel/Colleague. Preference to those with Microsoft SQL Server/Reporting Services working knowledge and experience within an educational environment. Ability to maintain and improve editing of .NET applications.
