Adult Basic Education and High School Completion Instructor (Study Lab Monitor) – Part-Time Evenings

REPORTS TO:  High School Completion Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for assisting and supervising students in the Study-Skills Lab of the High School Completion Program, which helps prepare students for the HiSET test to earn their High School Equivalency Diploma. This includes assisting students with independent study in math, reading, writing, science, and social studies; monitoring and scoring practice tests; and providing explanations and individualized assignments for further study and practice.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Maintain daily attendance records for students.
  • Assist coordinating assessments, schedules, and activities.
  • Maintain integrity of assessments.
  • Maintain student accounts and monitor student progress in online learning curriculum.
  • Teach evening face-to-face or an online classes on a substitute basis as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in teaching or education.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and provide customer service for diverse populations (faculty, staff, students, and general public).
  • Demonstrated ability to use classroom technology.
  • Demonstrated ability to create lessons tailored to specific skill levels
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate students and apply retention techniques.
  • Flexibility with new initiatives and approaches.
  • Maintain customer confidence and protects operational integrity by keeping information confidential.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and follow complex oral and written directions.
  • Must be welcoming, self-motivated, independent, willing to participate in required professional development, and detail-oriented with lesson plans, class records, and paperwork.

PREFERENCES:

Teaching certification.
Teaching experience.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:

Part-time. Hourly. Classes are Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. during fall and spring semesters.

Working conditions:  Requires skills for succeeding in an office environment, using technology.  Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.

Work is performed in an office setting.  Sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during working hours.  During course of day, interact with students, faculty and staff in person, by telephone and computer.
