JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the daily operations of the RedTail Café serving students, staff, and the general public.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Preps food, creates weekly specials, runs the floor (helps customers).
  • Orders inventory and records inventory weekly.
  • Creates a small staff schedule bi-weekly as well as meets with Instructor daily to update on all activities, maintenance of equipment, and any major purchases including food and beverage items over $250.
  • Collaborates with Instructor to maintain all safety and sanitation methods and standards.
  • Collaborates with students who will help operate the daily business.
  • Collaborates as part of a team to develop innovative ideas related to the Café.
  • Balances the cash drawer daily and making deposits into school funds.
  • Maintains a budget and creates a monthly Profit and Loss Statement.
  • Collaborates with various vendors to ensure product quality and equipment maintenance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Instructor or Dean.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree and two years of related experience.
  • Experience working in a coffee house setting preferred.
  • Patient and caring attitude toward student workers.
  • Experience in directing and supervising the work of others in a team.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Experience in the use of point of sales systems, word processing, Excel and promotional technology.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to positively interact with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service, maintain customer confidence and protect operational integrity.
  • Ability to demonstrate commitment to diversity and inclusion in accordance to the Hawkeye Community Colleges Mission, Vision and Intuitional goals.

PREFERENCES:

  • Professional experience working in the Hospitality field.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:

Reduced Full time position with comprehensive benefits program including health, dental, vision, life, and LTD insurance, a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expenses; personal and sick leave; and a choice of retirement programs—IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA (defined contribution). Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience. Anticipated hours will be flexible including evenings.

Working conditions:  Requires good hand-eye coordination and arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.

Sit, stand, bend, lift up to at least 50 pounds and move intermittently during working hours.  During course of day, interact with students, faculty and staff in person.
