REPORTS TO: Head Soccer Coach 

JOB SUMMARY:

This position assists with the supervision and coaching of practices and competitions. Recruits student athletes, directs practices, manages practice and travel schedules, and supervises team conduct during competition, travel, tournaments, and other events where the team is represented. Participates in the planning, organizing, and execution of preseason and season practices. Fosters a positive team atmosphere and supports student athletes’ academic progress, retention, and graduation through mentoring activities and guidance to appropriate support services. Due to the nature of the work involved in coaching; many weeks will entail morning, evening, and weekend hours. Needs of the department vary, the percent of time devoted to each part of the job will be governed by seasonal and immediate needs of the department.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist Head Coach with all men’s and women’s Soccer practices.
  • Recruit students for the men’s and women’s Soccer program.
  • Be present at all men’s and women’s Soccer practices and competitions.
  • Promote positive public relations for the men’s and women’s Soccer program.
  • Provide first aid in emergency situations and complete annual blood borne pathogen training and CPR certification.
  • General professional staff responsibilities.
  • Supervise and provide instruction and direction at the men’s and women’s Soccer practices.
  • Supervise and provide guidance at the men’s and women’s Soccer competitions.
  • Performing set-up, tear-downs, and storage of equipment.
  • Enforce all safe policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 2 years coaching and/or competing in Soccer.
  • Experience and knowledge of Soccer.
  • Thorough knowledge of, or willingness to learn all applicable NJCAA and ICCAC rules as they apply to Soccer.
  • Demonstrates ability to travel.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required or ability to obtain.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively.
  • Strong commitment to high ethical standards and integrity.
  • Demonstrates ability to build team cohesiveness.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with diverse populations, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Positive attitude toward athletics and recreation.
  • Due to the nature of the work involved in coaching; many weeks will entail morning, evening, and weekend hours.
  • Successful clearance of criminal conviction record check.
  • Must possess a current driver’s license valid in the State of Iowa and a driving record insurable by the College’s insurer.
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License and Passenger Endorsement within first three months of employment
  • Needs of the department vary, the percent of time devoted to each part of the job will be governed by seasonal and immediate needs of the department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

PREFERENCES:

  • One-year experience working with college aged students.
  • One-year experience with NJCCA and ICCAC policies.
  • One year recruiting collegiate athletes at the NJCAA level.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:

Part-time position with a choice of retirement programs—IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA (defined contribution).

Working conditions:  Requires skills for succeeding in an outdoor and office environment, using technology.  Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.

Work is in a combination of indoor and outdoor environments. Outdoor environments may become susceptible to inclement weather conditions. During the course of the day, interact with students, faculty and staff in person, by telephone and computer.
