JOB SUMMARY:

This position is located in the Health Education and Services Center (HESC) and provides assistance and supervision of the front desk and weight room. Upholds usage policies and promotes positive public relations. Provides group and individual exercise opportunities for students and staff. Provides first aid in emergency situations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assists supervisor with the implementation of student activities including intramural, social, recreational, and family events.
  • Provides group and individual exercise instruction in the areas of personal training and general strength and cardio courses.
  • Assists supervisor with coordinating, marketing, and promotion of wellness, intramurals, and club sports.
  • Assists with supervision of daily, evening and/or weekend activities.
  • Assists with the development of project reports and promotional information about HESC services offered.
  • Assists staff with student programs/activities including graduation ceremonies, and fall/spring celebrations.
  • Performs general inspection and maintenance of equipment within HESC.
  • Maintains a daily student cleaning schedule for the weight room, equipment, and training areas.
  • Performs set-up, tears-down, and storage of equipment.
  • Assists in the general supervision of all activities in the HESC.
  • Assists in the supervision of student employees.
  • Occasionally transport students to activities and events off campus.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in leisure services, health promotion, fitness management, sports administration, business or related field or Associate’s degree and two years of recent relevant experience in leisure services, health promotion, fitness management, sports administration, business or related field.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurable.
  • Possess or ability to obtain chauffeur’s license.
  • CPR/First Aid certification required or ability to obtain.
  • Possess or ability to obtain Personal Training/Group Exercise Certifications within three months of employment.
  • Ability to work with and provide customer service for diverse populations (faculty, staff, students, and general public).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow through and work without close supervision.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google programs.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
  • Excellent time management and problem-solving ability.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:

Part-time evening position averaging 24 to 27 hours per week.  Anticipated hours will be four hours per day; 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday and occasional weekend hours.

Working conditions:  Requires skills for succeeding in an office environment, using technology.  Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.

Work is performed in an office setting.  Sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during working hours.  During course of day, interact with students, faculty and staff in person, by telephone and computer.
