JOB SUMMARY:

This individual co-teaches contextualized classes using the I-BEST (Integrated Adult Basic Education and Skills Training) model for Adult Education and Literacy students who are enrolled in the English Language Learning (ELL) or High School Completion program. Serves as the basic skills, ELL pedagogical expert, and literacy-enhancing instructor while co-teaching with the content area instructor. Collaborates on curriculum development, implementation, teaching, and coordination of current and new I-BEST and IET (Integrated Education and Training) classes including such classes as CNC, CNA, CDL, and Hospitality Management. Participates in research and collaboration necessary to ensure success of I-BEST and IET programming and the team-teaching model. Serves on the ELL teaching team.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Teaches I-BEST/IET classes as assigned.
  • Stays current on labor market trends and Department of Education initiatives so as to be able to adapt I-BEST/IET/ELL coursework.
  • Stays current on research involving the I-BEST model of instruction, student success and retention, and teaching of adults.
  • Maintains good communication by providing information about current trends and practices, in addition to concerns, issues, and changes within the college and community.
  • Assists with presentation and publicity for I-BEST/IET programs and classes.
  • Ensures program compliance with federal, state, and college requirements.
  • Maintains program records and collaborates with college personnel on all necessary data tracking.
  • Makes recommendations for purchases of new teaching materials for I-BEST/IET classes.
  • Serves as a positive voice to community groups about I-BEST/IET.
  • Collaborates with college and community personnel to ensure increased student retention, achievement, and rates of transition to postsecondary education and training.
  • Seeks opportunities for students to gain employability skills as well as employment assistance.
  • Collaborates with workforce development and the I-BEST/IET planning team to identify and implement new programming and classes.
  • Leads I-BEST/IET team meetings.
  • Attends meetings with community and college groups.
  • Teaches ELL classes as assigned on a regular and/or substitute basis.
  • Provides support and assistance to ELL administrative and instructional staff.
  • Assists with professional development of instructional staff.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, TESOL, English, or a related field.
  • One year teaching experience.
  • Ability to team teach.
  • Ability and willingness to learn skills associated with content in I-BEST classes such as math, machining, nursing, food safety, and truck driving.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise professional judgement.
  • Must be highly proficient using Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations (faculty, staff, students, and general public).
  • Ability to work flexible schedule which includes Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

PREFERENCES:

  • Master’s in Education/TESOL and/or teaching certification.
  • Experience teaching Adult Education and Literacy (AEL), IET, I-BEST, adult ELL classes, math, and/or digital literacy.
  • Experience team teaching and/or implementing the I-BEST model.
  • Experience developing curriculum for new programs and classes.
  • Experience with instructional technology and learning management systems.
  • Experience with CNA, CNC machining, hospitality management, truck driving, or other trades.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:

Working conditions:  Requires skills for succeeding in an office environment, using technology.  Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.

Work is performed in an office setting.  Sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during working hours.  During course of day, interact with students, faculty and staff in person, by telephone and computer.
