Z2018 Work-Based Learning Network Coordinator, Business Development

JOB SUMMARY:

This position provides continued opportunities to apply the best practices of the Intermediary Network for a targeted population. Increases collaborative efforts with workforce center staff and business and industry. Expands work-based learning opportunities for students in the targeted school districts through extensive work with local business and industry.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Connects with businesses to develop internships, job shadows, apprenticeships, work experiences, other training, tours, speakers, externships, career fairs, etc.
  • Participates in discussions with representatives from businesses, economic development, and Iowa Workforce Development (IWD).
  • Coordinates with local workforce development boards and one-stop center businesses to develop work-based learning opportunities for students.
  • Documents work results and data collection in reports.
  • Lists and describes business involvement with work-based learning experiences.
  • Reports the number of businesses approached that resulted in work-based learning opportunities.
  • Promotes workforce training and education through appropriate marketing measures.
  • Performs other professional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, social sciences, education, business or related area.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop partnerships and work collaboratively with other agencies, higher education institutions, community based organizations, or business and industry.
  • Considerable knowledge of community resources related to program(s) and services.
  • Working knowledge of Iowa occupations and educational opportunities.
  • Work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Working knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Ability to work with confidential information.
  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, and other software programs (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe).
  • Ability to work with a diverse population and must have knowledge of community resources.
  • Exhibits professional judgment, problem solving, and decision making, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to travel to and from various meetings and appointments.
  • Available to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated skill in attention to detail and accuracy.

PREFERENCES:

  • Experience working with business development.

Dean, Transitional Programs

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:

Part-time grant funded position with a choice of retirement programs—IPER (defined benefit) or TIAA (defined contribution).
