JOB SUMMARY:  This is a full-time position providing high-quality classroom instruction.  Instructional areas will include composition and may include literature and other related courses.  Teaching assignments may include days and evenings, and various sites and formats (face-to-face, on-line, ICN).  A full-time teaching load of 15 credit hours per term is typical.  Necessary skills for this position include the ability to formulate and maintain curriculum for assigned courses, employ instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives, assess student progress on a regular basis, and provide progress reports as required.  Experience with or commitment to various instructional modalities such as computer-mediated instruction is essential.  Beyond instructional responsibility, this position requires advising and providing leadership to students.  This individual will be expected to demonstrate exemplary teamwork and communication skills with supervisors, program faculty, other divisions of the College, and the community.  Leadership opportunities are available in the following areas: expanding and integrating curriculum and alternate delivery formats; developing continuing/professional education offerings; grant projects; program promotion; advising and mentoring; and initiatives to increase enrollment of nontraditional students.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Master's degree in English, composition, rhetoric, or closely related field.  Preferences include experience in teaching writing at a community college; coursework in reading and the teaching of writing, assessment and curriculum development, and eighteen graduate hours in communications/speech.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:  Nine-month contractual position beginning in January 3, 2018.  Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s education and experience and will include a comprehensive benefits program including health, dental, vision, life, and LTD insurance; a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expense; personal and sick leave; and a choice of retirement programs--IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA-CREF (defined contribution).
