Job Summary
The Sustainable Construction Program office is looking for a part-time Sustainable Construction Lab Assistant to join their team. This position is responsible for monitoring compliance with program safety requirements, assisting instructors with student supervision, lab activities and training as well as assisting with the preparation and organization of job sites/labs.

Essential Job Functions
Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Monitors and maintains safety compliance regarding hard hats, safety glasses, fall protection and tool usage to insure a safe working environment.

Ensures student safety by making sure students are out of harm’s way during equipment operation.

Demonstrates construction techniques to students.

Monitors/supervises student labs and activities.

Facilitates lab/job site preparation and organization as well as monitors the tool trailer to ensure students are replacing tools when used.

Assists instructors with lab activities.

Unless otherwise approved under Hawkeye’s remote work policy, regular on campus and/or onsite attendance is considered an essential function of the position.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

3 years of construction experience OR 1 year of construction experience with an AAS in construction related major.

Valid driver’s license.

Proof of insurability.

Demonstrated knowledge of construction equipment operation.

Demonstrated knowledge of construction techniques including concrete, interior framing, exterior framing.

Demonstrated commitment to customer service and the ability to work with diverse populations as well as various areas of the college (faculty, staff, students, and general public).

Preferred Qualifications
Employment Status
Part-time hourly position with an average of up to 23 hour per week.
Working Conditions
Anticipated schedule is typically 3 days a week during Fall and Spring semesters. Days/hours fluctuate depending on course times.
Work is performed at a construction site with natural or artificial lighting and operation of equipment. Site may be indoors or outdoors based on house construction schedule. Additionally, requires skills for succeeding in an office environment, using technology. Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during working hours. During course of day, interact with student, faculty and staff in person, by telephone and computers.
