Job Summary

Have a passion for surveying? Enjoy working with those who are interested in learning about surveying? We have an immediate opening for an adjunct (part-time) instructor in Land Surveying. The instructor will plan and guide the learning processes for students toward achieving course goals and student learning objectives as outlined in the course guide. Additional responsibilities include employing instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting course and student objectives; assessing the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, and providing progress reports (evaluations and grades) as required.

Essential Job Functions

Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Providing instruction on the following course topics:

    • Surveying safety

    • Locate, identify and reference property corners

    • Finding and referencing boundary markers

    • Calculate length and bearing of lines, area, etc. and balance a travers.

    • Measurement of a portion of a section

    • Calculating omitted measurements

    • Calculating the required lines to subdivide an irregular tract of land

    • Preparing a property description

    • Surveying a tract of land and preparing a plat using CAD

    • Using GPS to determine field location

  • Evaluate assignments in a timely manner

  • Provides required reports when due.

  • Experience with or commitment to various instructional modalities.

  • Assists with formulating and maintaining curriculum for assigned courses.

  • Supervises and advises students.

  • Maintains cooperative relationships with the supervisors, other faculty, the Advisory Committee, all divisions of the College, prospective employers, and the community.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • AAS in Civil and Construction Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology or equivalent.

  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills to positively interact with students, faculty, and staff.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain customer confidence and protect operational integrity.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with and provide customer service for diverse populations (faculty, staff, students, and general public).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Eligible for certification in NCEES Fundamentals of Surveying.

  • College teaching experience.

  • Fieldwork, office-work, and coursework related to Land Surveying, Legal Aspects of Surveying, Surveying software and hardware technologies.

Employment Status

Part-time, adjunct position with wages expected to be $49.00 per contact hour. Anticipated hours will be flexible including afternoon, evening, and occasional weekends hours.

Working Conditions

Requires skills for succeeding in a classroom and outdoor lab setting, using technology. Sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during class time. Interact with students, staff and faculty in person, by telephone and computer.
