Job Summary

Translators for the English Language Learning program assist program staff by ensuring that all pertinent program information is accessible to all students. Learners in the program range from pre-literate to advanced and it is important that all have equal understanding of, and access to, our services. Translators may also be required to contact individual students in order to convey program information and assessment dates.

Essential Job Functions

Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide written translations of program documents and correspondence such as program flyers and brochures, class flyers, class documents, core partner/agency information and forms, announcements, orientation materials (worksheets and enrollment forms.

  • Contact students (by phone or text) who are required to return for assessment.

  • Perform other translation and interpretation duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree.

  • Bilingual in English and one of the following languages: Bosnian, Burmese, French, Haitian Creole, Karen, Karenni, Lingala, Spanish.

  • Work experience in translation and interpretation.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with and provide customer service for diverse populations.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Google.

Preferences

  • Certified in translation/interpretation.

  • Documented evidence of translation work.

Employment Status

  • Part-time

  • Hourly

  • Approximately 10 hours per year or fewer on an as needed basis.

Working conditions: Requires skills for succeeding in an office environment, using technology. Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.

Work is performed in an office setting. Sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during working hours. During course of day, interact with student, faculty and staff in person, by telephone and computers.
