“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...” —Dr. Seuss
I am passionate about the academic process partially because of the path I took to get here. I obtained my B.A. in Psychology from Buena Vista University. From there I went to graduate school at UW-Stout for my M.S. in Mental Health Counseling; however, after my first year, I wasn’t sure that it was the right field for me. I loved what I was learning but felt the need for further exploration. After a few years of working in the human services field, I finally realized that higher education was the world for me. I realized I loved learning and the college experience, so why not do it full-time? I obtained my M.S. in Higher Education Administration from Upper Iowa University which has allowed me the opportunity to help others navigate the academic process.
I love working with students and having the opportunity to play a role in their college experience. My favorite part of the job is helping students define their own individual paths to success. It is rewarding to watch students take one step after another, even with setbacks, toward their goals. I get to be a part of some very pivotal moments in students’ academic careers which is a humbling experience. I feel lucky to work in an institution that not only values student success, but actively emphasizes student success.
