Robin is a professor in the English and Communication Department. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and English, and her Master’s degree in English from the University of Northern Iowa. A Cedar Falls native, Robin has studied the creative process in depth, participating in the Iowa Summer Writers Festival multiple times, and has studied with author Julia Cameron in New York City during an intensive workshop covering her book The Artist’s Way: Creativity as a Spiritual Practice. She was also one of 50 teachers nationwide selected to attend the Poetry Foundation’s Summer Poetry Teachers Institute in Chicago in 2019.

Robin believes meaningful learning opportunities transform a student’s learning experience. She co-advises ETC, the student art and literary magazine, serving as a liaison for student to author interviews, collaborated with the Iowa Arts Council to take students to plays in Iowa City, and facilitates some of the panel presentations sponsored by Hawkeye Reads, the campus-wide reading program.

Her 25-plus years of teaching practice encompasses developing and supporting voice, promoting authenticity, and ownership of life experiences through the expression of writing.
