Corrine began her teaching career as a high school English and Speech teacher in Illinois. She earned a Bachelor’s degree (English Teaching major, Speech Communication minor) from Illinois State University in Normal, IL. While teaching high school, she directed plays and worked with the yearbook. After teaching high school for a handful of years, she decided to pursue a career in higher education. She earned her Master’s degree in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. After graduating, she worked as an Instructor in the English Department at UNI for nineteen years, teaching a variety of classes including: Research writing, Creative Writing, Technical Writing for Engineers, Introduction to Literature, and Cornerstone. In addition to teaching at UNI, Corrine worked as a Writing Coach and Assessment Specialist for the College of Business. This opportunity fostered fruitful collaboration with business faculty and resulted in the article “Communication Activities in the 21st Century Business Environment” published in Business and Professional Communication Quarterly. In 2019, Corrine took a full-time Instructor position here at Hawkeye, where she teaches writing and communication classes. Corrine is an advocate for using Open Educational Resources in the classroom and has a passion for making connections between class material and real-world situations. Outside of the classroom, Corrine enjoys writing, golfing, and gardening.
