World Food Prize Lecture Series

Surinder K. Vasal, a plant breeder at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) in Mexico, significantly enhanced the nutritional content of maize, or corn. By developing Quality Protein Maize and promoting its cultivation in Africa, he provided a way to greatly reduce the prevalence of kwashiorkor, or severe malnutrition, in babies, thus uplifting the well-being of millions of children.
