Artist Statement
The title; A Crowded Planet comes from the method by which I construct my compositions. Organizing images with multiple figures has great interest for me. This also reflects how I see the world around me. There has been a vast increase in population throughout my lifetime, which is inspiring, but may be frightening as well. I recognize that this complicated issue has confronted our species for all time.
There is a sort of series within the exhibit that is focused on the disenfranchised. There are too many “Pilgrims,” (refugees) with little access to justice or opportunity. This seems incongruous in a world with so much wealth and technology.
I come from a family of artists and have worked in this occupation my entire life. I retired from full-time teaching at Hawkeye Community College in 2020 as an Emeritus Professor, but continue to teach part-time.
